Daly Haal - 12th Sept

A was the plan. B was built to test some crucial aspects of the plan. What am I talking about?

A

B

(A)Welthauptstadt ("World Capital") Germania was the name Adolf Hitler gave to the projected renewal of the German capital Berlin, part of his vision for the future of Germany after the planned victory in World War II.

Doubts persisted at the time as to whether the marshy Berlin ground could have taken the load of the proposed projects, leading to the construction of an exploration building Schwerbelastungskörper (B), literal translation: Heavy load-bearing body, which still exists. It is basically an extremely heavy block of concrete used by the architects to test how much weight the ground was able to carry. Instruments monitored how far the block sank into the ground. The Schwerbelastungskörper sank 18 cm in the three years it was to be used for testing, a maximum depth of 6 cm was allowed. Using the evidence gathered by these gargantuan devices, it is unlikely the soil could have supported such structures without further preparation

Identify these two authors with memoir faults. Oprah Winfrey was bowled over by the story and gave Rosenblat a lot of footage, earning him a book deal for a memoir named 'Angel at the Fence'. Soon, it became clear that there was one problem with his life story - that it was a lie. So, the memoir will now be released as a novel

B - James Frey - his 'memoir', A Million Little Pieces was an Oprah Book Club selection and sold almost as many pieces as specified in the title, thanks to that. It soon came to fore that the 'memoir' was nothing more than a million little figments of Frey's imagination, causing Oprah to confront Frey on her show, eventually giving the book even more publicity.

Cracked by Arjun.

A kilogram of this trades for around $20,000 - reason enough to fight wars over it. Whatitis?

Caterpillar fungus (Cordyceps sinensis), known locally as Yarchagumba, or Yatsa Gunbu. It is highly valued in Chinese and Tibetan traditional medicine. In a scramble to control the trade of this precious item, wars have been fought between the establishment and the Maoists in Nepal.

Cracked by Chandrakant and halfbrain.

I could have added a pic of Pink Floyd below but I do not like them, and you will have to make do without it.

A

B

C

A shows the album cover of U2's Joshua Tree. The part of the world that you see behind those poseurs in black is Zabriskie Point. B is Christian Zabriskie, the businessman after whom the region is named because he owned the mules that would regularly pass through there. C is Michaelangelo Antonioni who made a movie featuring naked people running about in lonely places. He called the movie Zabriskie Point, and all the hippies loved it.

I won't even talk about Pink Floyd here.

Cracked by Choultry and Conga.

You can find it in the Mexican town of Puerto Vallarta. A lot of the tourism in this seaside town can be traced back to the fact that John Huston shot his movie 'The Night of the Iguana' here. The statue is a tip of the sombrero to this fact.
